FLO ALEXANDER (Board of Directors, Hospitality, Production Assistant) – Flo came to theatre work later in life and is always happiest as far out of the limelight as possible. After braving a front-of-house opportunity during 9th Hour’s Grain of Salt run, Flo has gained a medley of backstage experience with the 9th Hour team starting in 2014. From running errands to painting sets to hosting the green room, Flo made behind-the-scene contributions to all of the 2014 productions (The Magician’s Nephew, The Screwtape Letters and The Great Divorce, and the musical Narnia), and added hospitality services to her involvement in 2015 productions (Ivan & Adolf: The Last Man in Hell and The Creation of the World and Other Business).
ALEXANDRA BENDER (Board of Directors, Community Engagement) – Alexandra is a teacher, volunteer, dancer, avid reader and outdoor enthusiast. She is currently working as an occasional teacher with the Ottawa school boards and is volunteering at Family Services Ottawa. She treasured her time studying for an Undergraduate and a Masters degree in Conflict Studies and Human Rights and continues to take courses as a lifelong learner. Alex has spent some time living and working abroad and is always eager to hear stories and perspectives from around the world. Though theatre, dance and literature are some of her favorite things, Alex also loves to hike, bike, swim and camp.
GEORGE DUTCH (Dramaturge, Artistic Associate) – George studied Acting at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver with internationally renowned theatre director, Gunduz Kalic during the 70s; then joined Kalic’s ensemble in northern Australia for 5 years where he taught a performance class in a university theatre program during the 80s. George was Director of the Drama Ministry at Dominion-Chalmers United Church from 2000-04. He has contributed to 9th Hour’s mandate since its inception, as an actor in 8 productions, as an artistic associate, a participant in play readings, and with the business operations of the company. He thinks theatre should investigate big ideas related to the role of culture in shaping everyday practices of living.
JONATHAN HARRIS (Producing Artistic Director) – Jonathan is inspired by stories that elevate our thinking and stir our souls, and is devoted to seeing them brought to life through the art of theatre and imagination. Jonathan has a strong passion for youth work, and is devoted to ongoing nuanced discussion about complex ideas and contemporary issues. Some directing credits include The Creation of the World and Other Business by Arthur Miller, The Secret Garden, as well as stories by C.S. Lewis in 9th Hour’s 2014 “Into the Wardrobe” season; Narnia, the musical, an original adaptation of The Great Divorce, The Magician’s Nephew, and The Screwtape Letters (nominated for best director and best professional production by the Capital Critics Circle). Other favourite roles were Set Designer for Children’s Letters to God, and C.S. Lewis in the Canadian premiere touring production of Freud’s Last Session.
ROB LINKE (Board of Directors, Promotion & Development, Managing Director) – Rob has lived in Ottawa since 2006 and has seen most of 9th Hour’s shows since it was founded. He leads a small team of writers and editors who create strategic content for a Crown corporation. He previously spent two decades as a newspaper reporter and editor in Atlantic Canada, culminating in four years as a bureau chief on Parliament Hill. He is an avid hiker, paddler and cyclist — and some day, he’ll get his completed first novel published and start his second.
DANIEL BEZALEL RICHARDSEN (Board of Directors, Community Engagement) – Daniel is the founder and editor of Foment, the literary journal of the Ottawa International Writers Festival, Canada’s largest independent literary celebration. Daniel is a Global Shaper and the incoming Vice-Curator with the World Economic Forum’s Ottawa Hub, and is a Prize Advisor to The Ross and Mitchell Prize for Faith and Writing. Daniel was born and spent his childhood in India, where he’s from, and had his formative years in Brunei before immigrating to Canada at age 18 for university. He is incorrigibly addicted to book clubs, jazz and soul, basketball and tennis, and spending time with friends and family the old-fashioned way: phone calls, letters, and in person. He pays the bills by writing legislative speeches at the Department of Finance and belongs to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish where he is an altar server.
MISHELLE STOTT (Artistic Associate) – Mishelle has been volunteering with 9th Hour since the very first show back in 2010. Performing as part of the dance ensemble for Telling The Story she quickly became enchanted with theater life. Since then she has been a part of several shows doing various behind-the-scenes roles such as Backstage hand, Choreographer, Hair & Makeup and Costume Designer. Planning the opening night parties for shows such as The Great Divorce and The Magician’s Nephew have also been a favorite creative past time for Mishelle. She has loved being able to work with all the incredible people who have been a part of 9th Hour over the years. Mishelle believes in the power of the arts and how much they can be used to heal, and bring joy to people. So here’s to many more stories that have yet to be told!
RACHEL-DAWN WALLACE (Artistic Associate, Technical Consultant) – As a graduate from Algonquin College’s Theatre Arts program, Rachel-Dawn enjoys having the opportunity to explore various aspects of theatre such as Stage Management, Production Management, Box Office and Administration, Properties Design, and Choreography. Rachel-Dawn has been working steadily in the professional theatre community since 2009, loving every minute of it, and was 9th Hour’s Production Stage Manager for the 2011-2014 seasons. As a recipient of a Prix Rideau Award (2012), she is excited to share her expertise with the 9th Hour Team.
