From the well known literary genius of Les Misérables, 9th Hour is pleased to present Victor Hugo's iconic masterpiece The Hunchback of Notre Dame with a contemporary twist and unique theatrical style that highlights the story's ongoing relevance for today.
Depicting the "Festival of Fools" and "Court of Miracles" on stage with wicked hilarity and mocking absurdity, this familiar tale contrasts monstrosity with beauty, condemnation with compassion, and cruelty with love.
Timeless and entertaining, this show for all ages challenges us to see and overcome what’s truly ugly in the world and embrace what's truly beautiful.
Keeping with tradition, after every performance, through what's called "tipping the show", 9th Hour will be raising funds for another local charity In From the Cold which has been serving the community of Hintonburg since 2002. In From the Cold is a hospitality ministry of Parkdale United Church providing opportunity for those experiencing poverty or other challenges, to come "in from the cold" and get together in relationship with others while exploring the mystery and privilege of giving and receiving in the context of safety, loving hospitality, respect and dignity. It consists of a full meal and live music every Saturday from November to March during Ottawa's coldest months of the year.
In 2023 after performances of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, 9th Hour raised over $5,500 for The Snowsuit Fund of Ottawa. In 2021, 9th Hour raised $1,000 for Restoring Hope through the development previews of the original work Beauty Will Save the World. In 2018, 9th Hour raised almost $7,000 for Innercity Arts after performances of Godspell, and over $5,000 for Orkidstra after performances of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
