AUDITION NOTICE: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Adapted for the stage by Joseph Robinette from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis.


December 14-17 (Shenkman Arts Centre) | December 19-23 (Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe)

9th Hour is seeking performing artists to join the company and be part of the cast of the 2023 production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Those auditioning should enjoy or be open to working in a style of physical ensemble theatre, singing chorally, engaging the imagination, and exploring the story's themes and ideas. PRODUCTION SCHEDULE

Rehearsals will be held in the Hintonburg neighbourhood of Ottawa, Mondays and Wednesdays (6pm-10pm) from September 11 to December 18, 2023. Additional rehearsals will be Fridays (6-10pm) on September 15, December 1, and December 8, 2023.


Dress rehearsals will be Wednesday, December 13 (1:00-10:00pm), and Tuesday, December 19 (1:00-5:00pm). Performances will be December 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, & 23 at 7:00pm, 16, 17, & 23 at 2:00pm, and 15 & 21 at 12:00pm for school presentations.


NOTE: Several weekday afternoons in December will be required as outlined above. Artists auditioning should come with full knowledge of their schedule and the ability to commit to the full production schedule.

CASTING REQUIREMENTS

All are welcome to apply for an audition. Due to the nature of the company's theatre style and the broad range of characters in this fantastical story, a wide spectrum of performing artists that best reflect society as much as possible is desired, including all racial and religious backgrounds, ages, abilities, and genders. Children and youth are especially encouraged to audition. The company is keen to work with talented performing artists of all levels of experience, from seasoned professionals, to those who've never performed at all. Any experience and skill in music, singing, movement, dance, puppetry, and physical or ensemble theatre, are all assets.


Roles include: LUCY, PETER, EDMUND, SUSAN, ASLAN (strong singer), THE WHITE WITCH (strong singer), MR. TUMNUS, FENRIS ULF, THE DWARF, MR. BEAVER, MRS. BEAVER, FATHER CHRISTMAS, AN ELF, A CENTAUR, A UNICORN, and various other NARNIANS.


COMPENSATION

Adult performing artists in the cast will be engaged under an agreement with 9th Hour Theatre Company and paid an honorarium fee for involvement in the production, upon completion of performances. Children and youth will also be engaged under an agreement, but due to budgetary constraints, without compensation. NOTE: At this time, the company will not be engaging CAEA artists for this production.

AUDITION INFORMATION

Auditions will be held Sunday, June 25th from 2pm-7pm at the Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe in Ottawa by appointment only. Auditions are conducted in a group format. Artists auditioning should be prepared to participate in physical, ensemble, and vocal exercises, choral singing, as well as scene exploration.
